Legislative Update...

September 2018

We Specialize in treating the cause of illness and not the symptom.

Pennsylvania Traditional
Naturopaths Association

Attention all Traditional Naturopaths in PA

In regards to the legislation that was passed last year for the naturopathic physicians to be registered in PA, there are continuing meetings in Harrisburg to set up the registration. Members of PATNA have been attending these meetings to represent our position which includes:

· Retaining our professional designation of ND

· Defending our training and our practices which have been present in PA for over 100 years

· To answer back the many lies and slanders that these naturopathic physicians bring up at these meetings.

These naturopathic physicians are trying to outlaw our practices in PA and take the whole field for themselves. To accomplish this they have submitted more bills in the PA legislature to go further than the registration bill goes in regards to licensure and restricting who can call themselves an ND.

We need more representation at these meetings. PATNA members and others who are on our mailing list should consider attending these meetings and speaking up to defend and support our practices.

There are several of us members of PATNA who cannot attend this September meeting and we are encouraging everyone else who supports our mission to attend this meeting and speak out in defense your education and your business.

See the letter below for more details

Dear Dr.:

You are receiving this e-mail because you or your organization have been identified as having a potential interest in the creation of regulations related to the registration of naturopathic doctors. If you would like to be removed from the Board’s contact list regarding this topic of regulation, please let me know by return e-mail so that I may update the Board’s records accordingly.

The Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine’s Committees on Allied Health Professionals, Legislation/Professional Liability and Continuous Professional Development have scheduled a meeting on meeting on Thursday, September 6, 2018, to discuss the following matters:

· Commencing at 9:00 a.m. -- Proposed Orthotic Fitter Permit Regulation 16A-4947
(relating to extension of the length of a temporary practice permit from 12 to 18 months and permitting issuance of a second permit under certain circumstances)
· Commencing at 9:30 a.m. -- Proposed Naturopathic Regulation 16A-4953
(relating to general regulations necessary to effectuate the Naturopathic Doctor Registration Act, Act of Nov. 3, 2016, P.L. 997, No. 128, 63 P. S. §§ 272.101-272.301)

The meeting will be held at the offices of the Department of State, Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs, Penn Center, 2601 N. Third Street, Harrisburg, PA 17106. Please note that this meeting will be conducted the day after the regularly scheduled Board meeting; therefore, the start time of the committee meeting is not expected to be delayed due to the need to complete other Board business.

There is a parking lot on Third Street, down the stairs from the Penn Center building; please note that a $5.00 parking fee is charged to park in the parking lot prior to 1:00 p.m. Parking may also be available on the streets surrounding the building; however, spaces are limited and may be subject to meters, permit restrictions and/or temporary no-parking regulations for street sweeping. Please observe all posted signs.

Please let me know by return e-mail if your preferred method of contact (regular mail or e-mail) has changed so that the Board’s contact list may be updated accordingly. Additionally, please note that the above contact information is only for purposes of receiving notices regarding proposed regulations. If you are a current licensee of the Board and wish to update your mailing or e-mail address for other matters such as receiving licensure renewal information, etc., you will need to change your address on file with the board by going to
http://www.dos.pa.gov/…/Pages/Online-Licensing-Services.aspx.

If you would like to be involved with the regulatory process regarding one or both of the regulations which are scheduled to be discussed, please attend the meeting or send a delegate who may participate on your behalf. If you are unable to attend the meeting or send a delegate to the meeting, kindly let us know to retain your name and address as an interested party to the regulation. You will then continue to receive additional notifications regarding meetings and other relevant information regarding the regulation as it proceeds through the regulatory process.

If you are aware of any other individuals or organizations that might be interested in participating in the regulatory process related to the registration of naturopathic doctors, kindly pass the information about this meeting along to those individuals/organizations and recommend that they provide their contact information to me so that they may receive future notices directly from the Board.

Finally, please note that in the event of severe inclement weather or any other state of emergency, it is possible that offices under the Governor’s jurisdiction may be closed on the date of the regulatory meeting. In such an event, the regulatory meeting would also be cancelled and would be rescheduled as soon as practical. State office closings are posted on the Office of Administration’s website at www.oa.pa.gov. Please note that the Board’s office is only affected by notifications which close/delay offices in the Harrisburg Area, not announcements limited to the Capitol Complex.
